Day 17 Thamo to Namche, Wednesday May 15, 2013

Namche 3445m 1.5 hour

I awoke at 5:30am to a beautiful view of the sun rising over the mountains, and I had slept through for 8 hours!!!

We had breakfast at 6:30am and were on the trail by 7:30am. Bikesh said we would be in Namche in about 2.5 hours.

I left first with Ishower and Tshiri to get a head start. We were singing to Shakira’s ‘This one is for Africa’ at the top of our lungs. Even one of the local cows bawled at us which brought more giggles from the guys.

We made good time and after an hour we stopped for a quick break. Tshiri had a Nepali tune playing and was dancing. I videotaped the full dance and he was fantastic – very graceful and beautiful rhythm. At that moment Charles, Spencer and Bikesh caught up to us. Spencer said he thought we were sprinting as they couldn’t see us however they could certainly hear us! Too funny.

Before long we turned a corner and there was Namche – Shangri-La! And only 1.5 hours – Bikesh knows how to work us now. We were all so excited to be back here. Spencer had said to Charles this morning – only 3 more hours to a hot shower!

We checked into our lodge, had a long hot shower and enjoyed the day. It was cloudy for most of the day so it was good to just take it easy.

Dinner was set for 6:30PM however Bikesh decided it was time for Happy Hour. Him and Tshiri had supported on of the out of the way cafes by having a Rocksi (rice wine) or two so they wanted us to catch up. Out comes the Kukuri rum and the Coca Cola. After a few drinks, the Nepali music gets louder and Tshiri, Ishower and even Bikesh are demonstrating their dance moves. What a riot, lots of laughter and revelry and a fair bit of rum and Rocksi consumed. I kept it low key and called it a night at 9PM.
