Good morning Guayaquil! Our room over looks the Park of the Iguanas (actually named Seminario Park) and the main Cathedral. What a great view it is!
We shower and head to the cafe for breakfast – what a delight, it is a full buffet breakfast and very good with lots of variety, local and international!
We still feel the same, we have a great feeling about Ecuador, it is the prIde for their city/ country, respect for tourists and for their own people that makes it feel so comfortable.
Following breakfast we Skyped Fero’s brother and sister-in-law in Slovakia and then headed out to discover Guayaquil. First stop was to take at taxi to the bus terminal to get the scoop on buses and times from here to Cuenca, our next destination. Domingo, our taxi driver, waited for us and brought us back to the hotel safe and sound.
Next, the Parque Seminario to have a look at the iguanas. There are literally hundreds of them in a park the size of 1/2 a square block – quite the attraction for both tourists and locals. Sufficient photos taken we go into the cathedral where mass is in progress. We stay until mass is finished and meander over to the Malecon, a mere three blocks from the hotel. What a wonderful seaside walk, however we don’t last too long as it is 32C.
We spent approximately two hours on the Malecon, taking photos and relaxing and then back to the hotel lounge for a snack, a cold beer and some great Chilean wine (Emiliana Cabernet Savignon) – it’s Sunday so we can start before 5:00 pm! Ha ha.
