Nicaragua & Costa Rica – Day 12 Granada to San Juan del Sur 1

We are both a little sad to leave this lovely place and Granada – initially we thought just the day tour would be sufficient for Granada but have since realized it is our favourite stop so far and I could actually stay longer!

Nonetheless we have reservations in San Juan del Sur so off we must go. We are both very curious about San Juan del Sur as so many people have commented on how touristy it is and not to bother. We have booked a Villa a couple of km out of the centre so hopefully we feel differently.

Breakfast was again scrumptious, fresh papaya, watermelon, pineapple and those sweet little bananas accompanied by homemade artisan Greek yogurt, and local honey drizzled on top. My mouth is watering just typing this! We had conversations again with Terry & Nancy and said our farewells to Mark, and the delightful staff.

Our shuttle is right on time and we are whisked off with 13 other folks, at only $12 US per person for a 2 hour trip, this is the way to go. The scenery heading south of Granada is beautiful and seems much greener than the north of the country, it also seems a wee bit more prosperous and very neat & tidy.

Much to our surprise all but four of us get out in San Jorge to catch the ferry to Omotepe island in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. The waves are furiously lapping at the lakeshore and all I can say is I am glad it is not us getting on that ferry. Only 30 minutes more and we are in the small town of San Juan del Sur. Our transfer drops us off at the Plaza Central and before long the hotel transfer picks us up and to our villa.

IMG_5265IMG_5267Wow, what a great room. We booked a 1 bedroom, however have received a 2 bedroom villa complete with full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a living room, patio and bedroom balcony. We could fit at least 6 rooms in here! And the view………, the view is fabulous looking out to the bay and surrounding hills. All the beauty without the noise and hubbub.

Ok what to do first – swimming pool to cool off and then shuttle into town (it goes hourly which is fantastic) for groceries. The sun sets over the Pacific as we prepare our dinner and it feels late, but it is only 6:00 pm!! We take our drinks out onto the patio and sit for hour in the lovely cool air, until the wind picks up and then time to call it a night.
