Nicaragua & Costa Rica – Day 29 & 30 San Jose & home to Vancouver

Photos of our Journey

Our last day in paradise.  Feeling very sad to be ending this great vacation and wish we could head back to Montezuma and the Casitas Sollevante.

Ok, enough crying, we have the town of Alajuela to enjoy.  We take one of the local city buses (about 30 cents!) and get off in town near the main church and central market.  This is not a colonial town as I had expected, however very lovely nonetheless.

IMG_5419IMG_5422We head straight for El Centro and sat on each corner to watch life go by, workers rushing to their offices, and seniors doing just as we were.  We wandered into the Alajuela Cathedral built in 1863 (its origins in a small chapel built in 1782), and were rewarded with incredible ceiling frescos.

Next we meander through the HUGE central market (one block square) purchasing our fruit & veg, and decide it is pool time.  The day started out cool & cloudy however it is now noon and 27C.

IMG_5424We taxi back with our purchases and enjoy a fabulous afternoon at the pool reading, and watching with interest as the pool area & hotel are transformed in preparation for tomorrow’s wedding.

We decide to spend our last evening in the hotel restaurant and unfortunately didn’t have as nice an experience as we did the day we arrived.  You win some and you lose some.

Maximiliano arrives early at 8:30am and we are more than happy to head to the airport.  We are third in line and are checked-in quickly.  We make our way through immigration and security and still have another 2.5 hours to wait.  I fill a good portion of this time shopping for goodies to take back to my class participants and coffee for home.

Our AeroMexico flights were pleasant, on time, and no glitches.  The Mexico City airport was chaotic but thankfully didn’t hamper us making our flight.

Home safe & sound around midnight, we had a glass of wine and reflected on a wonderful holiday!
