May 4, 2015 – the devastation in the small village of Nawalpur
For those of us that have been to Nepal, and have had the privilege to meet the Nepali people, they have captured our hearts with their gentle, honest & humbling nature. Trekking & climbing tourism is one of the top industries in Nepal and a huge portion of their livelihood. With the event of the devastating earthquake it will be a slow process to get back to normal.
Thankfully the Nepali Guide that I hire, Bikesh Rana, and his family are safe & sound. However, his home in Kathmandu and his family’s village of Nawalpur in the Dhading district have been destroyed. In true form he has spent the better part of last week taking what supplies he can gather to his home village and is in the process of helping them rebuild.
Many people have asked what they can do to help the people of Nepal. As the excerpt from a fellow tour operator, Mick, states below, “likely the best way now is to support at a ‘grass roots’ level“. My personal plan is to help Bikesh rebuild his village.
